Required Credit Card Changes Impacting Your Business

The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with the Greater Grantsville Business Association and the Greater Oakland Business Association to host a seminar on August 25, 2015 at the Garrett College Continuing Education Building, Room 205, at 8 am on Understanding the EMV changes. EMV is the global payment processing standard for cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate transactions with these types of cards. The major U.S. credit card companies have announced that merchants in the United States must transition from accepting magnetic stripe payment cards to EMV cards, also known as "chip cards" or "smart cards", by October 1, 2015. Merchants who do not have EMV-capable terminals by the October deadline will find that they have become liable for certain fraudulent transactions that used to be the issuing bank's responsibility. Kathi Klawitter, Vice President, Merchant Services Manager at Susquehanna Bank will present an overview of EMV and its security, details on the October 1, 2015 liability shift, and training your team on the impact of your debit card dispute process.
