    Job Description
    Frostburg State University, Physical Plant Department, seeks applications for a full-time, non-exempt MT Maintenance Aide I position to assist with daily operations in the HVAC Shop. Hourly rate $12.63; University System of Maryland benefits package included.
     
    This department is responsible for providing 24/7 maintenance coverage for the University’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. The intention is for the selected candidate to learn the HVAC trade, complete relevant training, and gain experience required to qualify eventually for a Stationary Engineer position. Satisfactory job performance and acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as State of Maryland licensure in the trade will be required for movement to a higher level. Note that the selected candidate will be expected to obtain a 5th Grade Stationary Engineer’s license during the probationary period.
     
    Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, assist HVAC personnel by performing simple and repetitive tasks using standard procedures, tools, and equipment. Function as an unskilled helper to HVAC personnel who monitor, inspect, maintain, and repair campus HVAC equipment. Operate and maintain tools and equipment; clean work area upon completion of projects. Remove snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment; spread salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping. Other related duties as assigned.
     
    Minimum Qualifications: One year of related work experience. Elementary knowledge of maintenance and repair practices, related safety practices and procedures, and basic tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; to complete simple logs and work order forms; to make simple adjustments, repairs, and replacements to mechanical equipment; to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment or machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies, and/or exert force up to 70 pounds; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Valid non-commercial driver’s license. Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination.
     
    Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Stationary Engineer’s license. HVAC maintenance certification and/or documented training. Experience with the operation of a boiler room facility. Good communication skills. Basic computer skills.
     
    Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
