Job Description
Frostburg State University, Department of Kinesiology and Recreation, seeks applications for a full-time contractual faculty position to assist with the Adventure Sports Management program offered in collaboration with Garrett College. This non-tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer will begin Fall 2018 and is located on the main campus in Frostburg, Maryland. Salary commensurate with experience.
FSU offers an innovative collaborative bachelor’s degree program that launches students into the world of adventure sports and outdoor recreation. The Adventure Sports Management program is offered on the main FSU campus in collaboration with Garrett College; 13 credits of skills courses within the 49-credit major are offered through the Garrett program. Both programs are experiential in their approach to academics.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate core courses in the Adventure Sports Management program on the FSU campus. Emphasis is on the topic areas of risk management, expedition planning, entrepreneurship, outdoor education, adventure therapy, and the LIFE program (a semester of block courses that may require field trips). Specific courses taught will depend on qualifications of the selected candidate. Duties include coordination of the Adventure Sports Management program and student advising. Depending on background and interests, the candidate also may teach courses in the Recreation and Parks Management program. Faculty members at FSU are expected to actively participate in the University’s student-learning-assessment program.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Adventure Sports, Recreation and Parks Management, or related field. At least one advanced degree (Bachelor’s or higher) must meet Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT) academic accreditation standards.
Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate. Previous university-level teaching experience of core courses. Three or more years of professional experience in the adventure sports field.
